USA - The North American Fundraising Tour for the Fourth International Vietnamese Youth Conference will begin this Saturday, August 27, 2005 in San Jose, and will make its round through eight cities in the United States and Canada. The two-month tour is aimed at raising funds for the North American delegation to attend the conference to be held in Sydney, Australia in December of this year.
A majority of the fundraising events consists of a dinner, entertainment, and live auctions. Other cities will also organize youth-oriented talent shows, forums, and dances. We had to do a lot of fundraising from our end when we attended the third conference in San Diego in 2003. Our friends in the USA really need all the support they can get,” says Nguyen Hoang Thanh Tam, the General Secretary of the Len Duong International Youth Network (Len Duong) and the conference co-chair. Nguyen is expected to fly in from Sydney to attend the events in San Jose, Sacramento and Chicago as well as attending other activities with Vietnamese youth organizations in North America. In addition, a nation-wide Radiothon will be broadcasted by TNT Radio Network on Saturday, August 27th, 7pm–9pm and Sunday, August 28th, 10a–12pm, both in Pacific time. Please tune into your local TNT station and listen to past attendees calling in from all over the world. The organizers will be taking pledges from listeners who wish to support the conference and the North American delegation. A majority of the proceeds will subsidize the cost of attendance and air-fare for North American attendees and a partial amount will go towards Len Duong for organizing the conference. About the conference: Every two years, the International Vietnamese Youth Conference is organized by the Len Duong International Vietnamese Youth Network to gather young Vietnamese from around the world to identify, discuss and resolve issues pertaining to contemporary Vietnam in the context of modern society. The conference was first hosted in Melbourne, Australia in 1999, followed by Paris, France in 2001 and San Diego, USA in 2003. This year, the conference will return to Sydney, Australia and will be co-hosted by the Federal Vietnamese Students Association of Australia from December 27th to December 31st.
