SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Exactly one week before Christmas, Aid to Children Without Parents (ACWP) treated its supporters with a wonderful show at Santa Clara University’s theatre. ACWP’s musical charity event, appropriately titled “To Kids, From Kids”, was absolutely wonderful! Like any other Vietnamese-hosted event, the show started late; however, the audience did not seem to mind as they entered the theatre, away from the rain. The audience was greeted with a short slideshow recapping the organization’s activities in the past, followed by an introduction from David Hong Nguyen and his co-emcee.
Musical youth groups from all over the Bay Area contributed to the success of this event: the F.L.O.C.K. Choir (For the Love of Chúa Kitô); the Hot Peppers, a vocal-instrumental group specializing in Vietnamese folk music; Strings-In-Sync, a grand group of violinists; the Bach Viet Boys/Girls Scout; Starlings Musical Group; and Văn Lang school. There were many memorable performances, including an adorable little girl from Văn Lang school who sang Yêu Dân Tộ Việt Nam (I Love My Viet Nam) and Lê Việt Quân’s rendition of Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2. The wide variety of music played was truly amazing, from traditional Vietnamese songs to a classic Vivaldi piece to a Spanish folk song. The “kids” were amazing as well, with some as young as 4 or 5 years old to others in their late teens.
As a nice surprise, all the performers joined on stage to wish the audience “a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.”
